InnoMedCatalyst: The integration of digital health with artificial intelligence has paved the way for precision medicine 2.0, an innovative approach that promises to revolutionize patient care. The potential implications of this transformation are wide-ranging, empowering healthcare professionals to deliver personalized treatments and improve patient outcomes.
AI and Digital Health have different roles and approaches in precision digital medicine. The first is mainly concerned with the intelligent processing of this information, transforming it into person-centred therapeutic decisions and activations. The second is responsible for the transmission of information, taking it (also from the patient through sensors), and transporting/delivering it to the decision-making and activation nodes of the health system, and also through the development of innovative devices.
Supporting medical and healthcare technology companies that are developing precision medicine solutions through AI and Digital Health comes with a number of challenges that span a variety of areas, including regulatory, technological, financial, and ethical considerations.
InnoMedCatalyst aims to enhance the regional innovation capacity of personalized and precision medicine ecosystems in which startups, spinoffs, scaleups, researchers, and healthcare providers will increase their capacities to develop, test, refine digital health solutions, and prepare cross-regional investment projects by 2027.
Potential Specific Targets:
- Identify regional value chains for precision and personalized digital medicine with the aim of systematically analyzing and visualizing the entire ecosystem of activities, processes, and stakeholders involved in the development, deployment, and utilization of digital technologies and related business cases.
- Enhance regional innovation capacity through the development of cross-border peer-to-peer learning programmes (Twinings) and tailored training and practice programmes dedicated to sharing knowledge, driving innovation, addressing both common challenges and specific needs of precision and personalised medicine, and improving health systems; ultimately, to patients.
- Facilitate a vibrant innovation ecosystem by creating a digital precision medicine accelerator and mentorship programs aimed at providing support and advice to startups, spin-offs, and entrepreneurs working on digital precision medicine solutions.
- Catalyzing open innovation, co-creation, and driving the development and deployment of digital health solutions based on the MEDIC NEST innovation platform that will bridge the gap between medical technology companies and healthcare providers, making it easier to test before investing in precision medicine solutions.
- Create roadmaps to an innovative regional ecosystem in precision and personalized medicine to catalyze the development, integration, and adoption of advanced technologies in healthcare based on collaborative frameworks.
- Develop a pipeline of inter-regional investment projects in precision medicine as a crucial tool to advance this field, promote collaboration and address complex health challenges on a global scale.
- Support access to finance and cross-regional investment opportunities for digital precision medicine projects.
