SSAT is the successor to the innovative S-URINAL project developed by Jungle, Dynatech and the CAR, among others, between the years 2021 and 2022 and partially funded by the AEI programme (AEI-010500-2021-133). As a result of this project, in which smart urinals were developed with specific cartridges for measuring the athlete’s hydration level, this project is proposed to go to the next level of biosensing. A new cartridge capable of measuring more complete parameters of urine, such as haematuria, proteinuria or urea for injury prevention, while conferring a key sustainability parameter for the transition to climate neutrality in the saving of an essential resource such as water.
In fact, SSAT was also born as a result of the demand for sports practitioners, sports facility management professionals, as well as the community of doctors and health professionals. All of them highlight the need to extend and offer a more widespread value proposition on how to integrate different urine parameters in a decentralized, simple and robust way without modifying a person’s habit.
In addition, it seeks to add parameters to be applied in environments adjacent to sport and/or sports practice, such as in geriatrics or the health sector in the medium term.
The main objective of the SSAT project is to:
- Research and development of a photonics-based system for the detection of real-time urine markers, such as haematuria, proteinuria or urea, which are directly associated with fatigue and injuries from sports practice.
- Develop a sampling interface in the toilet through an integrated urinalysis cartridge so that the user can monitor themselves effortlessly and very easily.
- Develop fully customizable physical activity prescription and recommendation algorithms to avoid the risk of injury through a system of digital applications for the user, as well as for the professional (trainer).
The Innovative Solutions for Independent Living Cluster (SIVI) participates in this project, which coordinates the Catalan Association Cluster of the Sports Industry(INDESCAT), and the companies JUNGLE VENTURES SL,CENTRAL SPORTS ASSOCIATION and DYNATECH 2012 SCP.
